I recently visited Stonemill Matcha in SF, and everything I tried left me impressed. The matcha latte was smooth and rich, with a flavor that balanced earthy and creamy in the best way possible. I also had a strawberry latte, which was sweet and refreshing, a nice contrast to the matcha.

For food, I went with the Chicken Katsu Curry and the Chicken Katsu Sando. Both dishes featured shio koji-marinated chicken thigh, breaded in fresh panko, and cooked excellently. The katsu curry was hearty, with tender chicken, Koshihikari rice, and some wonderfully fresh pickled radish on the side. The sando was equally satisfying, with the crispy chicken paired with housemade tonkatsu sauce and crunchy cabbage. You could tell everything was homemade, from the sauce to the pickles, and it really made the flavors shine.

However, indulgence comes at a price. While the flavors and craftsmanship are undeniably impressive, the price point might give some pause. That said, the quality—from the fresh radish to the homemade sauces—makes a compelling argument for the splurge. The matcha, in particular, is reason enough to justify a return visit. Stonemill Matcha may not be an everyday stop, but it’s certainly a place worth savoring when the mood (and budget) allow.

Sincerely,
